Om Shanti!
In India until now, there is this concept that if you drink a glass of hot milk before you go to bed, you will sleep well, so everyone goes for it. Now, here we are vegan and all that, but the best source of calcium is really milk. One time there was not enough milk in Pandav Bhavan, and those who have been to Pandav Bhavan, from the back gate you know there are also stairs to the dining rooms. Baba said, “Okay I will distribute the milk today.” So Baba went and sat there, everyone came and they were taking drishti from Baba and they took milk. While taking drishti from Baba, they did not look at the glass so they did not realize that it was half full. So I am just giving an example of how Baba had really beautiful ways, where children feel satisfied and he also feels happy. There are many situations similar to this that happened during Brahma Baba’s time. When they came from Karachi to Mount Abu; they had a lot in the beginning, there were 300 families, they brought everything. For the 14 years when they all were together, no one else came, no new contribution, nothing. They had enough and they used it properly. They really had many different experiences. Baba gave them sometimes a good variety of food, sometimes only buttermilk and millet roti. Baba kind of created a certain discipline where we get everything to eat, but we don’t really have a craving for anything. Brahma Baba created some discipline about food and discipline about everything, but especially many different ways to see that children have some control over what they eat, and of course what they do. When they came after 14 years to Mount Abu, it was very difficult, the climate was cold. Karachi and Hyderabad have a very beautiful climate around the year, not too cold, but they don't have any resources. Some people from Bombay and Delhi sent some money to them, and whatever little they had they managed very well. I am also bringing this up, because of the time we are experiencing now, things will get very expensive. The gas prices have gone up six plus today, so should we still drive that much or we should think about not only myself but whatever comes in Baba’s box or even your own income, you have to use it in a proper way.
Eat but don’t waste, don’t have cravings. Wherever you can, walk a little bit, don’t use a car, don’t just get in the car and go anywhere, it is quite expensive now. So in Brahma Baba’s time, they had no money for food, and for other expenses. So we have to cut back now. Those who put in Baba’s box, for them also life will be more expensive. Not only Baba’s bhandara but also everyone has to see how I can cut down on many things, use as much as necessary, but don’t waste or overuse. Whenever a situation comes, I always think of Brahma Baba’s time, how did they manage. You know, there was so much violence. What did Baba tell 300 of Baba’s children, what to do at that time? One time there was a group of people who were against them, were trying to break their main door and enter. There were so many stories, I mean I have seen some, but this was even before. It was 14 years of their yagya tapasya days, so many, and then coming to Madhuban was a big test for them. Some days they didn’t have anything, so they would go out and there were very nice berries in the trees, and they go and eat all that and come back and say to Baba, “I am full, Baba I ate enough.” So we also look at our life, we should not get used to spending. I was looking at the budget and also who spends how much.
In Shantivan they have a diesel plant and each one of us has a permit. If sister Mohini is going somewhere they fill it, and they have to write on the slip that we used this much, and every month they look at how much each one of us used. The same with the telephone bill. It is a very good system they have for everything, whether it is travel, with food, and rooms you are using. For everything they fixed according to our needs. I am very aware since I have become Baba’s child, how much contribution comes and how we have to use it. I was telling them how they should do everything: three meals, two snacks and whole day tea and coffee. We don’t do that much at home, right? Three meals a day, who eats three meals a day at home? So everywhere whether we are in yagya, whether we are in lokik home, each one of us should have some discipline and have the concern to set example for others also. So Baba says to not have any fluctuation or upheaval. Baba says that no matter what type of atmosphere you live in, let your stage always be unshakeable and immovable. When an instrument gives you advice, do not become confused with that. Check, did you become confused? When I am saying all that, is there anyone who had upheaval? So you all agree with me hundred percent, that’s great. When an instrument gives you advice, do not become confused with that because those who are instruments are already experienced. Even if any of their directions are not clear, do not have any upheaval. Baba says that tell them patiently that you will try to understand it, but only then will your stage remain constant, unshakeable and immovable. So there is a lot to think about and not to think, both. I remember how our Dadis, according to time, according to yagya, gave us many training, teachings and directions. It has always been very helpful. So all of this is not restrictions but understanding about the value. In our days Baba used to say even if one grain is wasted, goes in the sink, that is equal to one diamond. Souls contribute to Baba’s Bandara, so for us it’s a big burden if we waste it. So eat, but don’t waste it. We have to take some of those yagya principles, disciplines which will be useful in our lives. Otherwise there will be upheaval, for example, “Oh I didn’t get this, why can’t I do this?” So that’s how we are at present. Om Shanti
