Om Shanti
I think whenever Baba mentions about numbers, we want to hear attentively, right? I think this Murli must have been in the early days, maybe 70 days, or I don’t think at that time America and Canada were still born. Service began here a little bit in 1974, but that was little, and then service started in Guyana, London and Hong Kong. The three which began first were London, then Hong Kong, then Guyana, and from Guyana then North America, America, and other countries. The same service that began in Africa—Lusaka was there. I went there in Lusaka. Then there were other African countries. I went to a few, Tanzania and some others, just at the beginning of service in Africa.
And now when Baba has to declare which number Canada will have, number one? Yes, that’s true because at the present day Baba looks around. Baba will also find on the map Canada as a growing nation, as a growing service. Once Dadi Prakashmani, what did you do that you became number one? She said, “Because I do everything first.” So when I come into the classroom and there are not many people, so I go and sit in front. I know many will see me and they will come. But there could be another thought: “Oh, there are not too many, let me go, then I come back.” So you always have a choice, if you want to do first, you will have number one. But if you say, “Well, others are not doing it, even for doing, these people don’t do much. I have to do it, I have to take number one. So I have to do it. I will do it.” And second quality definitely is being an all-rounder. These days it is more like departments, and you only know what your department is, but in Baba’s time, my time, many of us we did everything.
There was a meeting once in Pandav Bhavan in Delhi many years ago, and we entered and Dadi Prakash had a broom in her hand and she was cleaning. “Dadi, why are you doing it?” She said, “I came and I saw places were not clean, so I thought maybe you all are busy, let me do it.” I remember in Bombay she was in charge in Bombay. Manmohini Didi was in Delhi and Dadi Prakashmani was in Bombay. She used to invite us, and I remember once I went to Bombay and I had to leave after a few days. She said, “Wait, wait, I am making a kind of daal which you really like. Can you wait and eat and then go?” Dadi Janki and I were in London together. I was with Dadi in the beginning. You know, I also make good food, but she has to pass it. Dadi would say, “Maybe a little more salt, maybe a little more sour, maybe a little more chillies,” because it has to be sugar, sour, salt, and chillies have to be in proportion. If something is a little less or more, we say the daal was very sweet, very hot, or very salty. She would just say, “A little different, a little different,” and one day then she said, “oh, it’s really taste accurate.” So accuracy, being active, and learning everything—that’s the joy of life.
Distaste is vairagya, right? Unlimited vairagya. But as I mentioned, Brahma Baba had interest in doing everything and knowing everything. Some people say, “Why do you need to know this?” Whatever is useful and practical in life, it is good to have that information. Not that we have some people always trying to Google and see, “Is corn something I should eat or not? How much starch it has?” So I said, “Google is like your mama.” I always say, “Google mama. You’re calling your mama?” Anything happens, let’s Google, spending too much time unnecessarily on anything, whether it’s computers or whatever. But not always online. Learn everything and balance everything. This is perfection. What is perfection? To do everything in a very balanced way.
Perfection is not only contentment. Sometimes contentment can sit back. “I am very content, so it doesn’t matter.” One is contentment of nature. By nature, a very contented soul, but motivation too. Not, “I am contented, so I don’t want to improve, I don’t want to progress, I don’t want to learn new things.” So contentment in attainments, contentment in our learning definitely means, “I am full up to now, up to today.” Yes. But I still have to improve. I still have to progress. I still have to learn, right? So to have everything Baba says, to become like Baba. Is it difficult? No, nobody finds it difficult. Now you should get number one, Canada. It’s easy because Baba is with us, our companion, and teaches us at every step and time. So Baba’s homework today is follow Father.
Baba says, You the soul are a charioteer and to be a charioteer means to be soul conscious. Many times Baba uses many words, but then Baba makes it simple: soul consciousness, which we all had been practicing. Baba says Father Brahma became first number by becoming the first number soul, by becoming this chariot consciousness. Therefore, follow the Father, it’s a little practice, right? Follow Father. A little practice: “I am the charioteer.” So Baba says the Father enters this body and controls it, that is, He becomes the charioteer, and Brahma Baba allowed Him to be the charioteer.
One time he was jokingly saying, “Shiv Baba comes and sits next to me, and then when we have to speak, I say, ‘Baba, let me speak.’ He says, ‘No, I will speak.’ Then He speaks and says, ‘Now you speak.’” Sometimes I kind of feel that like two souls sharing a little space and having a conversation, while speaking Murli, Shiv Baba speaks and then He becomes silent, or sometimes He leaves and then tells Brahma, “Continue.” Baba has to give examples, Baba has to take us on the path of bhakti, and then suddenly He comes and says, “Now I have to speak. Okay, now you speak, then I will speak.” Sometimes I look at their relationship. When I think of relationships with others, I first think how come Brahma Baba and Shiv Baba lived in a little space. Shiv Baba took the control, and Brahma Baba was so obedient, but also a master. He was obedient, but also he was a master. Very good balance, these are very high-value qualities.
Therefore, follow the Father. The Father enters in this body and controls it. Baba says He doesn’t depend on that body. It must have been an interesting experience for Brahma Baba. He becomes the controller, and only He remains. Brahma Baba then becomes loving and detached—nyara and pyara. So Baba says in the same way all of you souls, in the same way Brahmin souls, have to maintain this stage of a charioteer, that is, soul consciousness, like the Father. So simple, right? Baba explains and then says soul consciousness. Baba says that when you are the charioteer of your body, then naturally you become detached observer, and remain immune to any kind of effect of Maya in whatever you do, whatever you see, and whatever you hear.
I remember one time we were in Peace Park and Dadi Prakashmani, Dadi Janki, Manohar Dadi, many of us were sitting and they spread something and we were all sitting on the lawn. Many people used to go to Peace Park for picnics, so we were sitting and there was somebody criticizing another one. I thought it shouldn’t happen. Dadi Prakash was so innocent, not even knowing what they were talking about. They didn’t say anything, and I looked at her and thought she was so detached and lovely. Instantly, no reaction. Be detached, be lovely, observe. Eighty percent of things are taken care of by drama. At night time we hear so many things, we get calls about this and that, and I just give it to Baba. I say, “Even I, as a soul and body, am resting, but drama doesn’t stop.” Whole night drama is moving, the cycle is moving. So a lot of things become clear in the morning.
Since I learned that, I just put a full stop and say, “Okay, tomorrow morning when I start, then I will see where the drama is at.” So many beautiful experiences, once there was a situation and it was quite serious. The instrument called me because generally, being in a position or even as a senior sister, they will call where will they go. This person called, and I said, “Okay, I will tell Baba.” They generally say, “Tell Baba.” So I said, “Okay, let’s go sleep, don’t worry, tomorrow morning we will talk.”
In the morning when I woke up after meditation, I said, “Let me call.” For two or three days one soul had been calling. She had a very big surgery at Peace Village and she thought, “I should tell sister Mohini.” She said, “I have really, really bad pain and I couldn’t call.” So I called early in the morning. There were two souls. One was also a nivasi with us for many years because souls’ bodies are getting older, right, eighty and above. I called both of them as I was supposed to call. Definitely it was better. Sometimes what happens is that we are not able to put a full stop at night time, but drama also takes care of a lot of things. Of course, we remember Baba and give them our love, sakaash so that they heal better, feel better, and are better in their life.
So watch drama. Sometimes we act more than we watch. Every time Baba says “detached observer,” we don’t observe because we want to act, we want to do, we want to give answers. When I came to New York on Wednesday, so many people called and said, “Tomorrow, Thursday, tell Baba.” I would say, “Okay.” My nature has always been, “Let me check with Baba. Then I will tell you.” I don’t immediately answer. Before sleeping, let’s see the drama. Check with Baba and see the drama. So this helps you to be nyara and pyara. A lot of people say, “What’s the secret? How do we do it?” Okay.
Om Shanti.
